Last Friday, SCAUT kicked off its new lighthouse project “Slow Water.” Together with members and experts from architecture, spatial planning, insurance, and other sectors, we explored how underground spaces can be used as a resource for water storage, infiltration, and utilization.
The workshop clearly demonstrated great commitment and creativity within our community. We sincerely thank all participants for the open exchange and many innovative ideas.
Our goal is to use underground spaces – tunnels, caverns, old and new shafts – as sustainable water reservoirs. This approach creates reserves for dry periods, relieves sewer systems, and contributes to sustainable urban development as well as new business Ideas. Our inspiration comes from the Romans, who built aqueducts and cisterns over 2000 years ago to supply water.
Our work aligns with the UN Sustainable Development Goals: sustainable cities (SDG 11), decent work and economic growth (SDG 8), climate action (SDG 13), and life on land (SDG 15). After the summer break, further meetings and concrete project ideas will follow – we look forward to the next steps.
